Robyn has been using Lebenzon Paintbrushes for decades. She uses brushes made by my cousin Keith, and when I started making brushes, she continued to make great use of the innovations i brought.
My brushes follow a theme where each brush is an entirely hand made and one of a kind creation. The nature of bamboo brings infinite diversity along with arresting beauty. My brush handles are the most comfortable anywhere, and my brush bristles are designed to outperform. They are works of art for making art.
The brushes noted below come straight from the pages of Robyn’s book named Gel Plate Printing for Mixed-Media Art. The book was first published by Schiffer Craft in 2023. The books ISBN number is 978-0-7643-6694-9. All photos are copyright by © Robyn McClendon, 2024.
Robyn recently released an edition of this book in the French language.
There is a link here to the book in the French language.
Below are references to the brushes used and photographed in Robyn’s book. I note the page number in her book for reference, and also note that i didn’t make all the brushes she uses, but am honored beyond words that she included many of my brushes in her book.

On the unnumbered Dedication page at the front of the book there is a small diameter brush that is similar to my Small Diameter Orange Synthetic Brush with a 3/4″ long bristle. A link to that brush is here
On Page 9, next to the page that begins with Welcome! there are 2 of my brushes displayed on top of some of Robyn’s breath taking scripted art. These brushes are my Small Diameter Brown Synthetic Brush with a 1″ long bristle and bamboo cane handle (link here), and my Medium Diameter Brown Synthetic Brush with a 1″ long bristle and Wangi bamboo handle (link here). These brushes also appear on pages 16-17.
On Page 66 in Image 3 and 4 Robyn is working with my Wangi handle Siberian Elk Brush with a 1″ long bristle (link here). The brush is one of the best anywhere for lettering, scripting and calligraphy.
On Pages 66, 67, and 70 there is a large diameter brush with a bamboo cane handle. This is a Bamboo Whisk (thanks to Marla S. for identifying it). I don’t offer this this brush. My Boar Hair Brushes (link here) produce similar results but in smaller diameter. I offer the boar hair in a variety of diameters and bristle lengths.
On Page 92 in image 7 there is a brush named a Filbert brush. You can get a good Filbert brush from Da Vinci or Rosemary & Co. You can also do a search for the brush type Another great brush for applying paint in precise areas is my medium Synthetic Sable Brush with a 1″ long bristle and bamboo Cane handle (link here). The Synthetic Sable can be used with watercolor or acrylic.
On Page 100 (Below) Robyn is using my Medium Diameter Stiff White Synthetic Brush with a 1″ long bristle and Wangi Handle (link here)
On Page 111 Robyn is using a brush known as a flat edge brush or artist’s flat brush. This is a very popular kind of brush and most manufacturer’s make them. I recommend getting the best you can. Quality helps execution. Robyn says she uses a variety of Flat edge paintbrushes for acrylic and oil paints for this technique.
On Page 122, 124, 126 and 128 there are some brushes that are either flat or filbert brushes. Get a good filbert brush from Da Vinci or Rosemarry & Co.
I make something similar with my medium diameter Goat hair brush with a 1/2″ long bristle (link here). Goat works great with watercolor and inks. For Acrylics and Oils i recommend my medium diameter Orange Synthetic with a 3/4″ long bristle and wangi handle (link here) or my boar hair with a 3/4″ long bristle (link here) and cane handle.
